Home is a State of Consciousness

Writer's picture: Vicky TomskyVicky Tomsky

Today is a special day—five years ago, we relocated to Greece. As I sit down to reflect on this, I’m reminded of a quote by Elena Brown: "Home is a state of consciousness."  To me, home is not about a location; it’s more about a feeling.

Having lived in various places—Canada, Japan, Israel, and Ukraine—I’ve learned that home is less about where I am and more about how I feel there. Even though I’m far from where I was born and raised, I’ve discovered that home is truly where my loved ones are.

For the past 10 days, I’ve been in the Bulgarian mountains with Alon and the kids—snowboarding, sleeping in, enjoying comforting food, unwinding in the sauna, and spending late evenings out (a rare treat for us). I barely unrolled my yoga mat or opened my computer, but what surprised me most was that I didn’t fight it. I simply allowed the moment to be as it was—and that was enough. Years of yoga have taught me to release attachments and expectations, allowing me to be present without struggle.

Now, back home, staring at a mountain of laundry (with despair) and wondering what to cook for dinner (puzzled), I am craving the sanctuary of my home studio. where all my yoga props are, and reconnect with silence, finding peace in the stillness within.

Time on the mat is coming home for me, in a way. No matter where I am, the moment I step onto my yoga mat, I return home—to myself. This is why yoga has been such a major part of my life. It’s a practice that brings me back to my center, no matter where I find myself in the world.

Thank you for being here, for your support, for signing up for workshops, joining my retreats, responding to my newsletters, and subscribing to my YouTube channel! Without you, I wouldn’t be able to do what I love most: helping you & others fall in love with yoga and life!

Sending love across the skies,

Vicky
